The only constant is Change…
After the Aether Revolt Prerelease, and the changes we needed to implement, it was clear that more changes need to be made.
You might recall we sent out a survey in an attempt to find out what was working for you, and more importantly what was not working for you as a player in our store.
The results of the survey guided our changes, and supported the age-old notion that you can please some of the people most of the time – but there is no way to please everyone. Some of these changes will be met with joy, some with indifference, and some will be met with disappointment. Hopefully more of the former and less of the latter, but your feedback will let us know!
No more Midnight Event
So here is the biggest fundamental change to our line up – we’re axing the Midnight and the 5am Events from our schedule. Instead, we will be offering a 7pm Event on both Saturday and Sunday.
2HG Events will be unchanged, and occur as the afternoon event on Saturday and the morning event on Sunday
Events will be shorter – and have fewer prizes
All our Prerelease Events will run for three rounds – win, lose or draw, everyone will get to play against three different opponents.
The events previously at 3:30pm each day are being brought forward to 2:30pm.
We’re also adjusting the prize pool – down to two boosters per player, as mandated by Wizards of the Coast. Every player gets two boosters of Amonkhet for playing, available at the end of the event!
However, we’re also adding 2 Prize Tickets per match win – these tickets will be redeemable for picks from the prize wall, drinks from the fridge or even additional non-AKH boosters.
Events will be cheaper! Much cheaper!
We’re reducing the cost of each Prerelease Event to $35.
Multi-ticket discounts will still apply – preregister and play three events over the weekend for $100, or play all six events for $180!
…and like all constants, this will likely change too…
While these changes are locked in for the Amonkhet Prerelease, we are always open to suggestions and feedback. Please use our anonymous feedback link if you’d prefer to let us know your thoughts without letting us know it’s you!
I haven’t gone into too much detail about the why’s and wherefore’s of these changes – if you would like an in-depth explanation of each change, please let me know. We’ve grappled with all of these changes, and some of them were very hard to make. We are as used to the old structure as you are, and I know change is a big scary thing – but work with us, we’re trying to make as many people’s experience as good as we possibly can.
Thanks for taking the time to read all this.
